Because we’re referred to every day as “mom”, we can sometimes forget that we’re still women. We still like to take care of ourselves, to dress in a comfortable way that makes us feel good, and express ourselves with our style. The thing is, how can we stay on trend whilst keeping practicality in mind?
This becomes particularly difficult during the current winter months, as warmth and comfort are top of the list. If you’d like to know how you can stay fashionable during these blustery days, here’s a quick run-down of the top mom-friendly winter trends.
- Animal print
The cats have well and truly got their claws out this year! If you want to make a statement when walking down the snow-covered high street this January, make sure you have some trusty leopard or tiger print in your wardrobe. It could be in the form or a stunning chunky fur, or it could be a sleek and sophisticated raincoat, but this will be your best friend if you want to keep warm whilst staying on trend. If you’d like something a little subtler, add an animal print statement handbag to an all-black outfit, which you’re sure to have in your wardrobe.
- Velvet crush
Remember those beautiful velvet dresses and suits that were so popular in the 80s? Well you’re in luck, because both trends are back on the catwalk, all rolled into one. Whether it’s jumpsuits, power dressing and shoulder pads that take your fancy, or just the ability to mix and match different prints and colours, go crazy! Just don’t forget to look out for some velvet pieces to add to your wardrobe during the sales.
- Goodnight sweetheart
Luckily, a very easy style which looks lovely no matter what your shape is also back on trend this winter, and that’s the sweetheart neckline. If you have an important gathering to go to, opt for an elegant cocktail dress with this neckline for a timeless look. Or, if you’re busy running errands or need some workwear inspiration, the layering effect of a sweetheart collar over a contrasting polar neck jumper will add a twist to your “mumsy” wardrobe.
- Purple rain
Luxurious, easy to wear and now fully back on the runway, the colour purple is making a comeback through the winter months. If you decide to keep things darker to match your charcoal grey clothing for this time of year, then add a hint of plum or aubergine to break things up a little. If you want to try and rid yourself of the winter blues however, opt for lavender and lilac against softer greys and creams as we move into Spring.
