Take a Pic in the Big Blue Chair!
The Big Blue Chair has been around Lynchburg since 2014. Created by Kevin Sanders and Tim Yannayon, this bright blue chair has become a fun way for people to remember their stop here. To avoid a controversy between TN and AL fans, rather than painting it orange or crimson, the chair was painted blue – in honor of our very own Moore County Raiders. Pictures submitted to our local Chamber of Commerce are shared on their Facebook page. People from all around the world are featured sitting in the Big Blue Chair! This picture of my boys was taken in 2015 – we are definitely due for a new one!
Lynchburg Old Jail Museum
The Lynchburg Old Jail Museum holds a special place in our family’s heart and history. My father-in-law served for a short time with our local law enforcement. During his time, he worked from this “old” location. Every few years, our family enjoys a tour (free — but they gladly accept donations!) to look at the artifacts held inside. My husband can tell his own stories about spending time in there with his dad and he can easily name most of the people you’ll see photos of on the walls. It was built in 1893 and remained in use until 1990. Be sure to add it to your list to visit!
Lynchburg Winery
Wine in a whiskey town? A little ironic but it works for us! With one of the largest tasting rooms in Tennessee, you can experience sweet or dry and everything in between. They’ve even hosted Paint Nights and Singer/Songwriter nights full of fun and talent! Visit the LynchburgWinery.com website to learn more!
Barrelhouse BBQ
If your belly starts rumbling and begging for food during your visit, a stop at Barrelhouse BBQ is a must! Home to the Grilled Cheese on Crack, if you go away hungry, it’s your own fault! Chuck’s BBQ was featured on BBQ Pitmasters and once you get a taste, you’ll see why – it’s delicious! Our family enjoys a stop at the restaurant before Friday night football games. Each year since opening, Barrelhouse BBQ has received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence. Learn more on their website www.barrelhousebbqtn.com.
Lynchburg Cake & Candy Company
If you love sweets, The Lynchburg Cake and Candy Co. will be a special treat! Mr. Bill Thomas and his wife took a 135+ year old family recipe and modified it to include a local taste of Jack Daniels Whiskey. Today, they offer several products include Jack Daniels such as pralines, whiskey balls, and more. Free tours are offered daily. Visit their website for more information or to place an order!
Lynchburg City Cemetery
This is another place within Lynchburg that holds a lot of memories for my husband. He helped his father, mother, and sisters mow in between the graves in this local cemetery. On the grounds, you’ll find Jack Daniel’s grave, along with a couple of chairs. While this isn’t necessarily a “tourist” stop, if you’re interested in history, you’ll get a feel for our community here. Please be respectful to the grounds if you choose to visit.
Lynchburg Hardware & General Store
If you’re in need of a memento from your visit to Lynchburg, a stop at the Lynchburg Hardware & General Store is a must. They carry authentic Jack Daniel’s Whiskey gear including drinkware, apparel, coffee, treats, and more. It’s a gorgeous shop that makes you feel like you’re transported in time when you get soaked into the decor.
Southern Perks Cafe & Bistro
Southern Perks Cafe & Bistro is a tasty stop right on the square in downtown Lynchburg. When I worked in town, our office would frequently order lunch and desserts for special events. Their own special selection of menu items is completely different from anything else you’ll find in town. The fresh selection of pastries and a piping hot cup of coffee are the perfect start to any visit in Lynchburg!
