Love green bean casserole with cheese? This is the recipe for you! After trying this green bean casserole recipe – I’ve barely gone back to making my more traditional version of the dish.
There are many different ways to make green bean casseroles, recipes vary slightly here and there. And I think they’re all very good! But this is by far the best green bean casserole, in my opinion. So, kick it up a notch with this extra ingredient – and enjoy!

The Best Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients
- 2 cans (14.5 oz, each) green beans, drained (frozen or fresh green beans will need to first be cooked/boiled until tender)
- 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 6 oz French fried onions (or just as many as you’d like!)
- 1 cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese (sharp works as well – I just prefer mild for this recipe)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Mix green beans and soup in a large pan or pot. (Or a large microwavable bowl)
- Heat on medium heat until warm. (Or microwave 3 – 5 minutes until warm)
- Combine with 1/2 c. of shredded Cheddar cheese and heat for a few more minutes.
- Pour mixture into a casserole dish.
- Top with the French fried onions and remainder of shredded Cheddar cheese.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for approximately 10 minutes or until the French fried onions begin to brown and the cheese melts.
