The Importance of Taking ‘Mom Time’

As a mom, your life revolves around your children. You sacrifice a lot to make sure that your kids get the best! While your kids may be priority number one, it’s still important to take some time just to take care of yourself. This time is ‘Mom Time’.

It doesn’t matter what you do during Mom Time as long as you are careful to obey these 3 simple rules:

  1. No Slaving Over Chores: Don’t compromise the valuable time you have to yourself with your to-do list. When you take time for yourself, make it count! Try new things and rediscover what you enjoy.
  1. No Stressing: Stressing about things over which you have no control doesn’t positively influence your well-being. In fact, stressing too much can even take a toll on your health. So, during mom time avoid thoughts that make you worry and concentrate on your present state. If you have a hard time doing this, take a look at this Harvard Business Review study that provides simple ways to de-stress.  The crux of the article is that it’s important to take time outs (hello Mom Time) to make sure stress doesn’t build up too much.
  1. No Worrying About Others: This is probably the hardest thing for moms. Not worrying about others means not going out of your way to appease others. While you can still care about your family, it’s your turn to be a little selfish. While as a parent you want to do everything you can for your children and their happiness, try to remember that your kids feel your stress, and that a happy mother makes a better parent.

So, how’s the best way to do Mom Time? Here are our ideas for some activities you can do without the family to improve your well-being.

Go Out To Dinner

Going out to dinner won’t only get you out of doing the dishes—it’s also likely to raise your spirits. Whether you go with the girls or just eat solo, a dinner out once a week makes for some good Mom Time.

Eating out doesn’t need to be expensive or unhealthy, either. Before going out, check out your options regarding various restaurant prices.

Watch a Movie

Watching a movie can distract you from stressful or worrying thoughts while also entertaining you. Mom Time at the movies is a great way to hang out with friends or spend time alone. Going to the movies every now and then isn’t expensive, and it’s a wonderful way to escape and enjoy an evening out.

Visit The Spa

The ultimate way to celebrate yourself is to go to the spa and let yourself be pampered. Every mom deserves to feel like a queen! If you’re interested in doing a spa day for yourself, be sure to plan everything in advance so you can have a relaxing time.  There are plenty of terrific spa price and membership deals that make this an inexpensive treat.

Exercise

Exercise has been proven to relieve stress and release chemicals, called endorphins, that make you feel good. Just going for a brisk walk can make you feel this way, so put on your sneakers and get out there!  This is an easy, free way to feel good that can take as much or as little time as you need.  Another option is to hit the gym or sign up for a yoga or Pilates class.

There are endless options of activities to do during Mom Time! But, remember, the main goal of Mom Time is to improve your personal well-being, both physical and mental. We recommend doing Mom Time as often as your schedule allows, but definitely at a minimum of once a week.
