Do you ever wonder why you get tired quickly? Your daily activities such as work, household duties, and leisure are some of the reasons you may experience fatigue. However, one factor that causes you to slow down is your posture. Unfortunately, poor posture can sometimes become second nature to us, which causes uncomfortable neck and back pain that may dangerously damage spinal structures. Despite not knowingly causing your wrong posture, you still can apply corrective measures and feel better. Here are some tips for improving your posture.
Avoid Slouching
Most people slouch all the time, especially when they are working long hours or just doing nothing. Slouching increases the stress on your spine and strains your bones, joints, and muscles. You need these parts of your body to hold your backbone in place and avoid bad posture. If you slouch regularly, you are also smashing your inside organs together that makes them work harder. Eventually, you will have a hard time digesting your food or not getting enough oxygen while breathing.
Stand Up Straight
One of the best ways to improve your posture is to stand up straight and tall. Think of a wall behind you where you will stand as if you measure your height. Tuck your chin while holding your head straight, and position your ears over the middle of your shoulders. You need to stand with your knees straight and your shoulders back. Keep your hips sticking out of your stance, and feel like your head is stretching upwards.
Do Not Slump at Your Desk
Even if it’s a bad posture habit, slouching can be comfortable on some levels. Instead, you can sit all the way back in your chair and get a lumbar cushion or a rolled-up towel. Position it behind your middle back to support your spine’s natural position. Then, keep your knees at the same height while bending them at a right angle, or maybe higher than your hips. Remember to place your feet flat on the floor.
Manage Smartphone Stress
Most of us are dependent on our smartphones. We associate almost every activity that we do in a day with the gadget, where we tilt our heads down for a long time. You need to take a break from this and stretch your neck for a minute to relieve the strains it causes on your spine. Try using a different angle for a better view, like lifting your phone and following with your eyes while keeping your head steady straight.
Drive Properly
Driving is another activity where your back can experience a lot of stress. We tend to recline to achieve a comfortable drive. However, doing so can put a lot of strain on your vertebrae, mainly when you take long drives. One way to do it is to make your seat close to the steering wheel. You should not lock your legs. Keeping your knees slightly bent will also help.
Engage in Regular Exercise
One of the best ways to keep your posture is to engage in workouts that will help you strengthen your back muscles. Exercise will also help you get rid of the excess fat to remove the stress on your back. You need to develop an exercise program that will keep your spine in its best shape. Doing a big back workout can help you build your back muscles to support proper posture.
Whenever you’re feeling extreme pain in your back, consider if your posture is correct. Sometimes, adjusting your posture can make a big difference in relieving back pain.
