You are finally visiting Los Angeles and you can’t wait to see the town you have heard so much about. Unfortunately, you are only here for three days and you don’t know where to begin. You will need a way to get around and a plan. If you are smart, you will look for a luxury auto rental in Los Angeles. That way you can get where you are going in style and comfort. People come to town for many reasons, but LA’s major draws are the film industry, the beaches and the city’s role in history. A day exploring each of LA LA Land’s major attractions may be the best way to see the city in a short amount of time.
Hollywood
Start your trip in Tinseltown with a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard, where you can walk to Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Here you can see if your feet are the same size as the Hollywood legends who left their footprints at the famous spot. Have a three-martini lunch at Musso and Frank, where you can eavesdrop on Hollywood screenwriters discussing their latest scripts at the bar. If you’re a fan of jazz be sure to stop by the Hologram USA, where you can catch a concert by Frank Sinatra or Billie Holliday. The Dearly Departed Tour is a great way to end the day. This tour will take you to some of the places where famous people have been caught in scandals or passed away.
The Beach
There are a lot of beautiful beaches in the Los Angeles area. You can go biking in the OC and catch a whale watching cruise at Dana Point or you can take a stroll down the boardwalk of Venice Beach. Venice offers everything from tarot card readers and surfing lessons, to a place where you can float in a sensory deprivation tank.
If you prefer a more conventional atmosphere, you can take a trip up the road to Santa Monica Pier where you will find a big Ferris wheel and a lot of carnival games. The beach itself gets pretty crowded at this popular spot. There are a lot of great places to eat in Santa Monica and if you walk down the Promenade, you will see many of tomorrow’s music stars busking for tips.
History
Although it may be considered good for you and not the real stuff of vacations, it never hurts to learn a little something when you take a trip. LA offers many historical tourist attractions, many of which are in the South Bay area of LA County. Take a trip to San Pedro where you can take a tour of the USS Iowa. This big boat is the Battleship on which Roosevelt traveled to the Tehran Conference where he met with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin.
On your way back to LA you can drive through Terminal Island, home to the prison where Charles Manson learned to play guitar. You can go to Downtown LA and take A Literary Tour of Charles Bukowski’s Los Angeles where you can see where one of the city’s most famous authors lived, worked and drank. If you are more of a Raymond Chandler fan, you can take the In A Lonely Place: Raymond Chandler’s Los Angeles tour. On this tour you will see the seedy side of the town on which the famed detective novelist was fond of writing.
Man does not live by tourist attraction alone; you need to eat. So, make sure to check out The Snow White Cafe in Hollywood and eat some of the best pizza you will ever try at Joe’s. Enjoy some vegan wings and fried avocados at Doomies and have a sundae at Kind Cream.
Three days is not a very long time to see one of the country’s biggest and funnest cities, but if you plan ahead, you can hit the highlights.
