It’s hard to miss this seemingly uprooted and upside-down building perched at the water’s edge of Broadway at the Beach. As one of our favorite attractions in Myrtle Beach, WonderWorks is at the top of our must-visit list. When the kids hear that we’re planning a trip to Myrtle Beach, this is the first requested stop. WonderWorks is filled to the brim with fun, hands-on exhibits that spark the imagination and inform inquisitive minds.

WonderWorks is an amusement park for the mind with 50,000 square feet of “edu-tainment”. The attraction combines education and entertainment with more than 100 hands on exhibits that challenge the mind and spark the imagination.

This once top-secret laboratory was located in the Bermuda triangle. An experiment gone awry lifted the laboratory carrying it to Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach where it landed upside down. Luckily all of the exhibits remained intact and available for guests to explore.

Walking into WonderWorks, you’re greeted with an entrance that keeps with the upside-down theme you found outside. The walls and ceiling are adorned with furniture, clocks and other decorations that appear to have been disturbed when the laboratory was carried away to Broadway at the Beach.

Once you’ve received your pass and are on your way into the inside amusement park – you’ll first find yourself heading through a spinning tunnel – the premise is that the tunnels helps to adjust and properly align to your surroundings in the upside-down building. Not a fan of spinning tunnels? Don’t worry! There’s a separate walkway you can access instead.

Now you’re in the laboratory and have access to the WonderWorks Wonder Zones!

We spent a lot of time in the Physical Challenge Zone where the bed of nails and the Glow-In-The-Dark-Ropes Course are always big hits with our family. The Spacewalk Challenge (ropes course) is 36 feet high with 20 obstacles!

WonderWorks takes family fun to new heights with an indoor ropes challenge course. Participants will scale to a maximum of 36 feet while conquering over 20 different obstacles, crossing carefully over suspension bridges, swinging beams, lily pads and more!

We highly recommend trying the Spacewalk Challenge if you are able to do so. Be sure to check out the safety and restrictions list before your visit to ensure you’re wearing the proper gear! You can find a link to it here.

More Fun Zones

The weather did not cooperate with us during the visit and we were not able to try the outdoor Soar & Explore Zipline and Ropes Course. We hope to try it next time, but here is a great video of the fun it offers.
