U.S. News and World Report lists 14 summer vacation destinations it believes your family will adore, but four popular places are no-fail no matter what. Some of the entries on this list didn’t make the U.S. News cut, and that’s a shame, because they are tried-and-true places of which mom, dad, and the kids can never get enough. It’s almost summer vacation time!
1. Los Angeles, California
Hooray for Hollywood, the Santa Monica Pier, and so much more! Los Angeles, California has it all from the beaches to the mountains and everything is within driving distance. In fact, driving is part of what makes L.A. L.A., but be prepared for its infamous traffic when you get behind the wheel of your rental car. Head to Hollywood for the Walk of Fame and then a few miles north to Burbank for the studio tours. Universal Studios Theme Park is in between the two cities, and then you can head north on Interstate 5 to Six Flags Magic Mountain for heart stopping thrill rides.
2. New York City, New York
“Starting spreading the news…” The Big Apple is a unique combination of history and modern attractions. Take the family to New York City this summer and discover your family’s immigration to the U.S. at Ellis Island. While there, check out Lady Liberty and Battery Park where you can pay your respects to the 9-11 victims. Wall Street is just around the corner and Times Square is a quick subway ride north. Enjoy the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum while in Times Square and the historic Empire State Building. Then hop on the subway again to get to Central Park.
3. Orlando, Florida
Orlando, Florida also has a Universal Studios Theme Park and, of course, Disney World and Epcot Center. You and the family can spend weeks in these two themed resorts alone, but for your marine-loving kids, you should check out SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium. Thrills can be had at Gatorland where, yes, you will come face to face with real alligators. Be nice to them and respectful, please. They aren’t as bad as they seem. For a truly unique experience, head over the Escape Game Orlando, where you and your family will be put into a virtual escape attraction, such as a prison break.
4. Niagara Falls, New York
For the nature lovers in the family, head to upstate New York and check out the breathtaking Niagara Falls. Considered by many to be one of the best natural wonders in the world, you and your family will be astounded by the 170-foot waterfall that spreads across the U.S. and Canadian border in two sections. The water descends the 170-foot drop as fast as 30 miles per hour, which creates that notorious mist. If you decide to head into beautiful and friendly Canada, speak with your local insurance agents for additional trip insurance to protect you, your spouse, and the kids.
Any of these four places have more than enough to do for everyone in your family, and you can always visit grandma and grandpa over the holidays. Book your vacation early and realize savings on airfare and hotel, which frees up cash for the attractions.
