Just because you’re on kid duty doesn’t mean you can’t get a workout in! There are plenty of ways to improve your fitness while watching the kids, including putting on quick workout videos, including them in your exercises, and thinking outside of the box. Here are six ways to get your sweat on, even with the kids at home!

  1. Put on a Short Video – Any workout is better than no workout, so put on a short 10 or 20-minute video while the kids are occupied. Whether you have a baby at home who’s taking a nap or older kids who are playing outside, these quick workouts are a great way to make sure your fitness doesn’t take a backseat.
  2. Include the Kids – Want to know a fun and easy way to do some weight training when you’re watching the baby? Include them! There are actually countless workouts you can do with your child (literally) such as lifting them up and down to work your arms, having them sit on your back as you do push-ups, and carrying them in a baby carrier as you do squats. You’re sure to love these workouts and they’re sure to have a great time, too. It’s a win-win.
  3. Think Outside of the Box – Not all workouts have to happen in the gym. If you’re babysitting for the day, think outside of the box to get your exercise in. This could include going on a hike, swimming around the pool, or even walking around the mall. As long as you’re moving, you’re burning calories.
  4. Go Outside With Them – We can all learn a thing or two about children and how they use their energy. Instead of just watching them play, get involved to turn up your fitness. Monkey bars, a game of tag, and soccer at the park are actually better workouts than you might think.
  5. Make a Home Gym – Home gyms aren’t just for the rich and famous. You can build a workout space in your home by just investing in some simple dumbbells. There are countless bodyweight exercises you can do right at home, even while you’re watching the kids.
  6. Live Cleanly – Ultimately, your fitness starts in the kitchen and through everyday habits. Eating clean at home will help you and your kids be healthier and happier. This includes eating plenty of home-cooked meals with lean proteins, complex carbs, and fruits and veggies. It also includes refraining from drugs and alcohol.
