While visiting Gatlinburg you’ll want to carve out some time to enjoy Ober Gatlinburg. This family-fun attraction is nestled on the mountain tops overlooking Gatlinburg and offers a wide variety of activities throughout the year. What is Ober? It’s a scenic and exciting four-seasons world of Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area. It’s a mountaintop of fun, excitement and beauty high above Gatlinburg.
Though you can drive to this attraction we suggest traveling to Ober Gatlinburg via the Aerial Tramway up the mountain for a thrilling view. Its an experience you’ll not want to miss!
For the best view of the magnificent Smoky Mountains, make sure to ride the Aerial Tramway. Departing regularly from downtown Gatlinburg, this cable car will take you on a breathtaking 2.1-mile ride up to our Amusement Park & Ski Area. Travel up the mountainside in their Ariel Tramway and you’re set for a day of fun!
We absolutely loved the view while taking their Ariel Tramway to and from Obergatlinburg. It was simply amazing to swiftly and smoothly glide up the mountain and through the trees. It provides one of the best views of the Smokies and Gatlinburg.

Once you’ve arrived at the top you’ll find enough activities to fill an entire day. We suggest visiting their website and mapping out your visit before you arrive. There are so many things to do and you’ll want to ensure that you’ve given yourself enough time to enjoy everything.
Activities during the warmer months:
Ski Mountain Coaster: Ober Gatlinburg is proud to announce the addition of an exciting, year round adventure attraction, the Ski Mountain Coaster, scheduled to open in the late-summer of 2015. Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area will be a fabulous setting for the coaster which is nestled just below the peak of Mt. Harrison. The ride will last approximately 5 ½ minutes and cover approximately 3750 feet. Construction began in early 2015 and the ride is projected to open Mid-August of 2015.
Alpine Slide: Your ride combines a Scenic Chairlift ride up the mountain with a fun-filled weaving, wandering, dipping descent on one of two 1800 tracks through woods and ski trails.
Scenic Chairlift: The Scenic Chairlift offers one of the most awe-inspiring views of the Great Smokies. Come and see a free live Bluegrass Band beginning Memorial Weekend through Thanksgiving!
Wildlife Encounter: Ober Gatlinburg’s Wildlife Encounter is proud to share with visitors our black bear family, including Minnie and BJ, and their now grown 3 year olds, Holly and Chief.
See our River Otters playing at the underwater viewing area, our beautiful Bobcats and our Birds of Prey in an enclosed aviary. Eventually fox and other native species will also have homes at this new facility.
Our Nocturnal House includes various species of native Smokies wildlife such as raccoons, skunks, flying squirrels, turtles and snakes.
Chair Swing: Let the kids enjoy whirling through the air for a near-flying experience!
Kiddie Land Rides: Tunnels to explore. Swinging bridges to cross. A web crawl to scramble through. Ladders to scale and chutes to slide down, and more.
Lightnin Raft Ride, Blue Cyclone Rapids or Shoot-the-Shoot: Enjoy a quick water park experience on these fast and refreshing slides!
Amaze’N Maze: Move fast to find your way through this outdoor maze. Search for hidden letters and make it out in time for a prize!
If you complete the maze within a specific amount of time, you can win a prize! It’s a cute little prize intended for kids – and ours enjoyed earning it!
Mini Golf: Enjoy a fun game of mini-golf while taking in the beautiful scenery around you.
Water Fun: Lightnin Raft Ride, Blue Cyclone Rapids or Shoot-the-Shoot Grab a ticket and take a ride down the lightnin’ fast water slides!
Activities during the winter months:
Carousel: The indoor Carousel is a great place for kids – and adults!
Arcade: Rain or Shine, youre sure to have fun in here! Arcade games prices vary.
Ice Skating:
Skiing and Snowboarding The snowy mountains are a beautiful site! Spend a day on the slopes enjoying the breathtaking scenery. More information here.
Snow Tubing Snow tubing is a great winter activity for ages 3 and older. It’s all the fun of sledding without the walk back up the hill!
We spent most of the day enjoying the different activities available at Ober Gatlinburg. If you plan to visit be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to try everything youll have snow much fun!
