Freeze those Summer Goodies

One of my favorite things about summer is all the fresh fruits and veggies! With summer coming to an end, this is a great time to stock up on your favorite fruits and veggies and freeze them for those winter months. Not only will you enjoy the delicious taste throughout winter, this will also save you money. Now is the time to buy strawberries and other berries while they are on sale, clean chop and freeze them, so during winter you don’t have to purchase the pre-packaged frozen fruits. Frozen berries, peaches, and plums make for jams and cobbler. You can also do this with pineapple, frozen fruit is great for smoothies.

Some of my favorite veggies to purchase and freeze for winter are corn, bell peppers, green beans, and zucchini. To freeze and store veggies you want to blanch them before freezing. They are great for side dishes but also for all those warm soups and stews in the cold winter months.

With all the great deals at Lucky California, my local grocery store now is a great time to start planning ahead and picking up some of those summer goodies to save for winter. If you pick up a little extra every time you go grocery shopping for the next few weeks, it makes it easy on your budget.
