One of the buzz topics surrounding Cedar Fair this summer has been whether or not different parks are going cashless? Across various travel and amusement park groups, I keep seeing questions such as: “Is Kings Island not accepting cash?”, “Does Kings Island still take cash?”, “What if I don’t have a credit or debit card?”.

So, I’ve set out to clear up some of the confusion and frustrations that I’m seeing. Even if you’re used to bringing cash to the park or don’t have any type of card – this change won’t affect you much. You’ll just switch out your cash for a card once you arrive. It’s easy peasy! Let’s get started.

Is Kings Island accepting cash?

Kings Island, along with several other parks, is going cashless. What does this mean for you and your trip?

I rarely ever bring cash or coin with me into an amusement park, museum, or other attraction unless I know beforehand that I must use cash for specific items and activities. Specifically: candy machines or the souvenir coin press activities that many places offer. Otherwise, it’s easier for me to use a card – or app.

If you only have cash, they do have an option for you.

What if I only have cash?

On the other hand, I know a lot of people who either do not use cards or carefully plan out the cash/amount of money they bring on their trip to Kings Island and how it will be spent.

If that’s you – rest easy knowing that this change won’t disrupt how you plan your trip spending. It should actually make individual transactions quicker and less of a hassle for you.

All of our in-park locations will only accept credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. It’s faster and always secure. – Chad Showalter, Kings Island

Even if you do not have a credit card, debit card, or payment method on your phone – you can still easily use Kings Island’s cashless payment system.

I saw several friends begin to worry that now they wouldn’t even be able to go to Kings Island since they only use cash. But, no worries – you’ll still get to go and enjoy all of your KI favorites!

We will have Cash-to-Card kiosks that can transfer cash to a card – no fees – which can be used anywhere, not just at the park. – Chad Showalter, Kings Island

If you strictly use cash, you’ll be able to utilize Kings Island’s Cash-to-Card kiosks to transfer your cash to a card. There are no fees and this card can be used anywhere – not just inside Kings Island.

So, how do you get one of these cards?

When you arrive at the park, you’ll visit a Cash-to-Card kiosk where you will put the cash you have on hand – onto a card. You can then use this card to make purchases throughout the park.

If you don’t spend everything on the card during your visit – you can then use this card outside of the park anywhere Visa is accepted.

So, now the short answer. Yes, they’re going cashless – but bring your cash and turn it into a prepaid VISA card once you arrive.

Cash-to-Card kiosks are located throughout the park at:

  • Front Gate Main Entrance
  • Festhaus
  • Diamondback Trading Post
  • Coney Mall Arcade
  • Soak City Water Park Restrooms by Rendezvous Run
