Nearly two years ago, we purchased an older home and have gone through a lot of updates and changes in that amount of time. It has required quite a substantial amount of work – but we are dearly loving our opportunity to make this home uniquely ours.

Given that it was an older home, we updated a lot of electrical work and swapped out light fixtures with more modern and decorative options. For the longest time, I thought that I had made a few wrong decisions when it came to the lighting. I wasn’t sure if it was the fixture, the bulbs or maybe even the shades of paint on the walls. I was having the hardest time enjoying most of the natural daylight that would come through our windows at different times of day. It seemed too “orangey” or warm. I had begun to think that I was the only one who was bothered by the slightest change in temperature or hue that was beaming its way through the window pane. Am I too picky? I’m not sure. It’s very possible.

However, I did find that there is something I can do to correct what is making my home a little less comfortable for me. I could have 3M sun control window film installed! I hadn’t known that it was even an option when it came to windows for the home. I have always known that you can tint the windows on vehicles, but the home – I never would have imagined! Did you know that you can do this? It’s something that you’ll want to have professionally installed and I can’t wait until we finally have it scheduled into our renovation plans and budget. Perhaps the lighting will finally be toned down just enough to make it appear less harsh throughout the levels of our home. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the low interior and exterior reflectivity that will allow me to enjoy the view from inside while maintaining an attractive look on the outside of our home.

In some areas, the sun light comes in so strong at different times of day that I’m afraid the fabric or wood in those areas may eventually lighten due to the harsh rays. It will be nice when we finally have the 3M Window Film installed since it rejects up to 99.9% of damaging UV rays that can fade home furnishings.

On top of those benefits, we’ve found that it can also help with our heating and cooling costs. We just spent a good amount of money on updating the windows and air system through the house – and it’s nice to see that by tweaking the lighting coming in from our windows that we can also save ourselves a bit of money in heating and air:
