If you’ve been watching our social media, you know that we just spent a week in Charlotte, South Carolina where we visited Carowinds for the very first time.
We also had our first experience staying at a Sonesta ES Suites! And to be upfront, we can’t wait to go back to both Carowinds and Sonesta. We had an amazing time all the way around.
We’ll talk more about Carowinds in another article, but right now I want to tell you about our stay at Sonesta ES Suites (Charlotte Arrowood).
To start, Sonesta ES Suites is designed for long-term stay. The “ES” in their name stands for “extended stay” and their locations are designed for that. Whether you prefer having the comforts of home while traveling or if you’ll be staying in the area for a long period of time, this is the type of hotel you’ll want to consider.
Our suite came with a full kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a living room area. This was perfect for us to spread out in and relax after our 8-hour drive.
The kids loved having their own room separate from us, and it was nice being able to get up early (as I do) and not have to try extra hard to be quiet and not wake them up. Quiet time to myself – on a trip! That’s rarely available to me.
- Free Wi-Fi
- Large flat-screen TV with free premium movie channels
- Flexible workspace
- Iron/ironing board
- Fully updated kitchen
- Coffee maker
- Cook-top stove, microwave oven, toaster
- Full-sized refrigerator
My favorite feature of the suite was that I had a full kitchen. Though I am extremely crafty at preparing meals in a standard hotel room, it’s nice to not need to take the extra steps that are required in cooking that way. At Sonesta, I could simply fill the full-size refrigerator and cook with ease. There wasn’t an oven, but we did have a cook-top stove, microwave, and toaster.
Even though they provide full kitchens, Sonesta did offer inclusive meals. We either never had the time or had made food in our suite, so we didn’t get to experience that this time around.
I know that a lot of hotels provide a desk or table, of sorts, in most rooms – but it was nice to have a dedicated space where I could set up shop and work while we were at Sonesta. Most often, I need to use the given desk or table for food that we have brought with us – and I am stuck working on my laptop from the bed.
The only evening we had available to enjoy the pool – it rained. The kids were bummed that they didn’t get to try it out, but it would have been a gorgeous option and place to spend some time relaxing.
There are different suite options to fit your various travel needs. Ours was their largest, the Two-Bedroom Suite. As I said previously, it was perfect for our family. Having never been to an extended stay hotel – I was surprised at the amount of space that it had.
If you’re staying long enough that you need to do a bit of laundry, Sonesta ES Suites does have on-site laundry facilities. I did not check out the pricing for the use of the washing machine or dryer – but you will pay per use of each.
I know that overnight stay rates can vary based on varying factors, such as the time of year and day of the week – so I’m not going to list specific rates in this article. But, the pricing is extremely generous given all the amenities. In fact, the rates are extremely competitive even if you’re comparing it to a standard hotel.
Sonesta ES Suites has several locations. Be sure to check them out here and consider them for your next trip!
